Civil engineers create and construct large-scale projects while applying their knowledge to develop, erect, and sustain national infrastructure systems. This program excels by combining scientific research, engineering design, and innovative problem-solving to address the demanding, real-world challenges faced by civil engineering professionals.
Students participate in 'Constructionarium', a week-long residential building project where they assemble miniature versions of famous structures using various construction materials. The curriculum includes a five-week collaborative Interact project, working alongside Architecture students from Glasgow School of Art and Quantity Surveyor students from Glasgow Caledonian University. Engineering-focused student organizations such as Glasgow University Civil Engineers (GUCE) and the Female Engineering Society (FemEng) offer additional engagement opportunities.
The MEng degree meets the qualifications for Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) certification upon graduation. The BEng program fulfills the educational requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status and partially satisfies the Chartered Engineer (CEng) prerequisites, serving as a pathway toward professional registration.
Alumni have secured positions with prominent organizations including: ARUP as civil engineers, Jacobs Engineering Ltd as civil engineers, Balfour Consultancy Ltd as structural engineers, BAM Nuttall as civil engineers, Laing ORourke as civil engineers, Scottish Southern Energy as civil engineers, WSP Group as civil engineers, Atkins Global as graduate civil engineers, and SEPA as trainee flood risk scientists.
