The University of Exeter's Translation Studies program combines practical application with theoretical exploration. Faculty members actively work as translators across diverse domains including social sciences, philosophy, academic writing, literature, theater, and poetry, working between languages such as Catalan, Chinese, English, French, Italian, Russian, and Spanish. Simultaneously, they conduct pioneering research into cultural and historical perspectives on translation.
Our scholarly work extends beyond professional translation practice. In collaboration with the Centre for Translating Cultures, we investigate translation's fundamental role in tracking knowledge production and transfer over time, analyzing memory and ideological systems, studying global cultural interactions, and exploring translation as the foundation for creative adaptations in literature and artistic expression.
