The Science, Culture and Law research unit (SCuLE) at Exeter Law School is an interdisciplinary team delivering cutting-edge insights into policy, governance, regulation, and cultural aspects of intellectual property law, medical law, environmental law, cultural heritage, and societal issues. Our team conducts globally recognized, creative, and impactful research designed to benefit society.

We utilize a blend of interdisciplinary approaches, empirical studies, and conventional legal analysis to examine these fields and their societal effects, including implications for individual and community welfare, as well as the legal frameworks surrounding innovation.

We foster a cooperative environment and actively seek international partnerships with scholars interested in contributing to our initiatives

Qualification Requirements

Normally students will have a good undergraduate Honours degree (UK Upper Second Class Honours or equivalent) and a Masters degree with a dissertation component. If you are seeking funding through one of the Research Councils (UK/EU students only), you will need to hold a minimum Upper Second Class Honours degree, although often these awards are won by those with First Class Honours due to high levels of competition.
