The Centre for Translating Cultures serves as a hub for Modern Languages research. Our postgraduate scholars frequently showcase their ongoing projects at the Centre and engage in our seminar series, which often features renowned guest speakers. Students in Modern Languages also participate actively in other research centers within the College of Humanities.
We maintain strong collaborations with UK museums, galleries, and global academic institutions, drawing research candidates from diverse cultural backgrounds worldwide.
Our program regularly hosts public seminars and lecture series featuring prominent academics and public figures from the UK, Europe, and beyond.
Admission to our research programs depends on our ability to provide suitable supervision. Your assigned supervisors, who must possess expertise in your research area, will offer essential guidance and support. You may collaborate with a research team or work closely with specific faculty members.
We highly recommend contacting potential supervisors informally with your research proposal before applying formally. This allows you to confirm their availability for supervision and receive feedback on refining your proposal.
You can anticipate:
Exceptional research supervision to cultivate your academic growth
Personalized supervision tailored to your specific needs
Approachable supervisors eager to mentor postgraduate researchers
Scheduled regular meetings with your supervisor
An open-door policy providing direct access to leading researchers willing to share their knowledge
Frequent interactions with your supervisory team, research group members, and academic mentors
