China's global cultural significance has never been greater, making knowledge of the country and its language increasingly vital. The BA Modern Languages: Chinese (Mandarin) program at Exeter provides a comprehensive route to fluency, offering deep insights into China's rich cultural heritage while developing analytical skills to examine its evolution through various cultural expressions.
During your third year, you'll immerse yourself in Chinese culture through study abroad at prestigious institutions like Peking University (PKU) or Fudan University.
Please be aware that Chinese language study is currently only offered from beginner level rather than advanced.
The program offers three study options:
Combining Chinese with one or two additional languages (such as French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish) within our BA Modern Languages degree (with the condition that no more than one language is studied at beginner level)
Pairing Chinese with disciplines like Art History & Visual Culture, Classical Studies, English, Film Studies, History, International Relations, Politics, Philosophy, or Sociology through our Combined Honours Programs
Or creating a customized curriculum through our Flexible Combined Honours program
