Earth's oceans form the planet's most extensive interconnected ecosystem, yet face growing threats from human expansion and climate change. As an aspiring marine scientist, you'll gain skills to pinpoint sustainable solutions while supporting conservation research, blue economy sectors, and marine policy development.
Our MSc in Marine Science and Sustainable Development corresponds with the UN Decade of Ocean Science, equipping students with vital knowledge to restore ocean ecosystems. Through our School of Life Sciences curriculum, you'll analyze marine systems' composition, operations, and societal value, while benefiting from modules offered by our Government Department - ranked 6th nationally for research strength (THE research power metric, REF 2021). The program culminates in a summer research placement with governmental, industrial, or NGO partners.
You'll cultivate professional connections with researchers, policymakers, and key stakeholders to reshape existing regulations against environmental challenges. These competencies will be reinforced through policy-focused initiatives within our School of Life Sciences, assistance securing external placements, or collaborative projects with partner organizations.
