Today's world is more interconnected than ever, with developments across the globe impacting our daily lives almost instantly. While political leaders occasionally collaborate to address challenges, tensions and potential conflicts remain ever-present. Our flagship program, the MSc International Relations, draws students globally who explore fundamental theories of the discipline, gaining analytical frameworks to interpret both historical and current affairs. The curriculum emphasizes practical understanding of global events rather than just tracing the academic evolution of international relations.

An Essex politics degree carries prestige, coming from one of the planet's top-ranked political science departments.
The MA International Relations equips students with valuable professional skills sought by employers across sectors, including critical analysis, research methodology, effective communication, and technical writing.
We provide doctoral supervision (PhD/MPhil) in specialized areas: governance, ideology studies, global affairs, political psychology, and political science.
Our academic excellence is reflected in our alumni's careers - many now hold teaching and research positions at prestigious institutions worldwide, including: Mannheim University (Germany), ETH Zurich (Switzerland), Duke University (USA), NATO/SHAPE (Belgium), and University of Amsterdam (Netherlands).
