Our MPhil in Social Work provides a distinctive chance to conduct research across diverse social and healthcare settings. Whether your focus is on the lives of children in care, elderly care services, or refugee support systems, we likely have an experienced supervisor to guide your research journey. You'll have access to our Masters-level research methods courses, equipping you with essential research competencies. Furthermore, the University's Proficio training scheme enables you to select programs tailored to your research focus and methodology.
This PhD program is available as a 2-year full-time or 4-year part-time option. Some candidates opt for an MPhil first to hone their research abilities and showcase their dedication and time management skills to prospective supervisors or funding bodies.
The School of Health and Social Care collaborates closely with our Service User Reference Group (SURG), comprising individuals with direct experience of health and social care services. Together, we shape our curriculum to prioritize patient and client needs. SURG members participate in our admissions process, often joining interview panels to help identify the most suitable candidates. They also contribute to teaching and research, offering invaluable perspectives from their personal health journeys. This exposure not only enhances your clinical understanding but also deepens your empathy, compassion, and advocacy skills.
