Our Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies provides PhD supervision in Film Studies across our extensive faculty research specialties, encompassing diverse perspectives on international cinema and media. Students can investigate various global film traditions, examine cinematic history and theory, study comparative and emerging media forms, analyze festivals and digital platforms, as well as production and audience reception contexts. With our faculty's broad expertise, you'll pursue interdisciplinary and groundbreaking research while receiving continuous guidance from your supervisor and advisory committee.

Qualification Requirements

You will need a good Masters degree, or equivalent, in a related subject. Some applicants may be accepted on the basis of an outstanding honours degree. A well-developed research proposal is also essential. If English is not your first language, then we will require you to have IELTS 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in writing, or equivalent, TOEFL IBT 100 overall with minimum component scores: listening 17, reading 18, writing 26, and speaking 20.
