This program caters to both experienced journalism students looking to advance their skills and beginners eager to complement their academic background with journalistic expertise. Open to applicants with degrees in various fields or relevant professional experience, it's available as a one-year full-time or two-year part-time program. Participants will explore journalism's theoretical foundations and practical applications within a global framework, examining its practice across diverse media landscapes, cultures, and regulatory systems. The curriculum offers flexible study paths: a practice-focused route ideal for students from other disciplines seeking journalistic skills, and a theory-oriented path beneficial for those pursuing doctoral studies in journalism. As the UK's first MA program providing comprehensive training in Open-Source Journalism methods, it maintains a unique connection with Essex's renowned Human Rights Centre, enabling students to engage with pressing contemporary issues through participation in the Digital Verification Corps.
