Our four-year LLB Law with Literature program (including a foundation year) is designed to build your subject expertise while enhancing your academic abilities. The foundation year (Year Zero) provides comprehensive preparation in these areas, setting you up for three subsequent years of undergraduate studies at Essex.

From day one, you'll be part of Essex's vibrant global community, studying at the UK's most internationally diverse campus university.

This unique program blends rigorous training in both law and literature, fostering critical thinking, creativity, reflection, and analytical skills. You'll examine connections between these disciplines while exploring their distinct methodologies, gaining insight into law's role in society and its interplay with literary studies.

Essex excels in commercial law, public law, and human rights law. We rank 3rd in the UK for law research power (THE research power measure, REF2021) and 47th globally for Law in THE World University Rankings by Subject 2023.

Our Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies takes an interdisciplinary approach with a focus on decolonizing education, offering specialized modules that highlight Black authors and diverse representations.
