Our four-year LLB Law program (including a foundation year) is designed to build your subject expertise while enhancing academic abilities. The foundation year (Year Zero) provides comprehensive preparation for the subsequent three years of undergraduate studies at Essex.
From day one, you join Essex's vibrant global community, studying at the UK's most internationally diverse campus university.
Here, you'll gain critical insights into law's role within social, political, and economic frameworks. Beyond studying legal principles, you'll examine law's societal function, philosophical foundations, policy implications, and reform possibilities. You'll learn to analyze and engage with diverse perspectives and opposing viewpoints.
We don't merely train you for legal practice. We inspire you to champion justice and provide the tools to drive meaningful change, regardless of your chosen career path.
Beginning in your first year, we encourage strategic thinking about professional development. During years one and two, alongside core law modules, you'll complete career management coursework to identify strengths, understand employer expectations (both legal and non-legal), and boost employability.
Our annual law fair connects students with legal firms and professional qualification providers. Alumni enter diverse fields including legal practice, business, finance, government, education, social services, and law enforcement.
