Our LLB Law and Human Rights program cultivates your analytical understanding of legal systems within their broader social, political, philosophical, economic, and historical frameworks.
At Essex, we actively participate in contemporary discussions about justice both in the UK and internationally. Our Human Rights Centre maintains a distinguished global reputation. Through collaborations with the United Nations, various governments, human rights groups, and multinational corporations, we incorporate worldwide perspectives into our curriculum.
As a student of law and human rights, you'll not only master legal principles but also examine law's societal role, its philosophical foundations, policy matters, and legal improvements. Your studies will cover areas such as: Worldwide economic justice and human rights, UK human rights safeguards, Freedom of thought and speech, European human rights legislation
At Essex, we go beyond preparing you for legal practice. We ignite your passion for justice and provide the tools and expertise to become a catalyst for positive change, regardless of your chosen profession.
From day one, we encourage you to think critically, broadly, and strategically about career options. During your first two years, alongside core legal subjects, you'll complete a career development module to help recognize your strengths, clarify objectives, understand employer expectations across various sectors, and improve your professional qualifications.
We host an annual legal careers fair featuring law firms and professional training organizations. Our alumni build successful careers in law and diverse fields including business, finance, accounting, insurance, government, education, social services, and law enforcement.
