At Essex, we challenge conventional thinking by exploring the choices people make, business strategies, and government policies to question traditional economic theories. This program takes you from foundational undergraduate concepts to advanced postgraduate-level economics, covering contemporary macroeconomics, microeconomics with policy applications, and econometric techniques for data analysis. Alongside core studies in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, you can specialize in diverse economic fields like Managerial Economics and Market Research, Global Trade, and Financial Economics. Ranked 4th in the UK for economics research impact (THE research power metric, REF 2021), our policy-relevant expertise spans game theory, econometric modeling, and labor economics, with findings published in top journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, and Review of Economic Studies.

Businesses increasingly seek economists who can analyze complex data and solve real-world challenges. Our program enhances your career prospects, preparing you for professional roles or further academic study.
Graduates secure positions across industries, including financial services, corporate management, public sector roles, and accounting professions.
