The Law PhD program supports research across diverse fields aligned with the School of Law's eight specialized research groups. These encompass: fundamental rights, legal technology, corporate law, socio-legal research, constitutional law, legal sociology, medical jurisprudence, and criminal law systems.
The School also hosts several cross-disciplinary research institutes such as the Center for Human Rights, the Essex Conflict and Emergency Research Unit, and the Essex Transitional Justice Forum. Furthermore, through the close collaboration between the Law School and the Human Rights Center, additional interdisciplinary groups and projects have emerged, including the Business and Human Rights Initiative, the Digital Rights and Data Ethics Project, and the Environmental Justice research group.
Our Law School's doctoral alumni have pursued successful careers in various sectors including global and multinational institutions, governmental agencies worldwide, corporate enterprises, advocacy organizations, and naturally, within legal practice and judicial systems.
