How can data science techniques contribute to addressing social science inquiries? Learn to merge profound social world comprehension with cutting-edge analytical tools and data resources. This program teaches you to formulate insightful questions and acquire the capabilities to solve them. By blending sociological knowledge with programming and data analysis expertise, you'll emerge as a social scientist capable of both interpreting and influencing the big data transformation. At Essex, we examine the bonds that unite people alongside the factors that separate them. Our vibrant, approachable academic setting allows you to investigate diverse subjects such as: - The impact of software on daily life - Python and Java programming - Ethical and societal challenges in digital communities - Data representation techniques - Social stratification theories - Intersections of race, class, and gender - Sociological research methodologies - Natural language processing As research methodologies evolve to accommodate society's massive data generation, sociology must actively participate in developing digital approaches to both utilize and guide them. Sociologists with programming abilities are increasingly sought after by organizations that collect and interpret data. By merging sociological insight with technical skills, you'll learn to comprehend and drive societal transformation. Our BSc Sociology with Data Science program is a collaborative effort between the Department of Sociology and Criminology and the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, delivering an interdisciplinary curriculum.
