Our BSc Accounting and Finance (including foundation year) welcomes both Home and EU students. This program is ideal if you don't currently meet the entry criteria for the standard three-year course and seek to enhance both your subject expertise and academic abilities.
Spanning four years, this course begins with a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by three years of specialized study. In Year Zero, you'll explore four subjects aligned with your chosen field while completing a mandatory module in English language and academic skills, setting the foundation for your undergraduate journey.
From day one, you'll join Essex's vibrant global community, studying at the UK's most internationally diverse campus university.
Upon successfully completing Year Zero through our Essex Pathways Department, you'll advance to Essex Business School to finish your degree.
Our BSc Accounting and Finance program offers hands-on experience in our virtual trading floor, where you'll utilize real-time Bloomberg Market Data Feed (B-PIPE) to simulate stock and securities trading, mirroring professional financial environments.
Covering diverse topics and strengthening quantitative skills, this degree prepares you for careers in finance, accounting, or business management after graduation.

Qualification Requirements
All applications for degree courses with a foundation year (Year Zero) will be considered individually, whether you think you might not have the grades to enter the first year of a degree course;
have non-traditional qualifications or experience (e.g. you haven’t studied A-levels or a BTEC);
are returning to university after some time away from education; or
are looking for more support during the transition into university study.
Standard offer:
Our standard offer is 72 UCAS tariff points from at least two full A-levels, or equivalent.

For this course all applicants must also hold GCSE Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent). We may be able to consider a pass in Level 2 Functional Skills Maths where you cannot meet the requirements for Maths at GCSE level. However, you are advised to try to retake GCSE Mathematics if possible as this will better prepare you for university study and future employment.
IELTS 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
TOEFL (IBT)- 72 overall, with a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing.
