This four-year program begins with a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by three additional years of study. In Year Zero, you'll explore three academic subjects related to your chosen field alongside a mandatory academic skills module, with extra English language support available for international students.
From day one, you'll join Essex's vibrant global community, studying at the UK's most internationally diverse campus university.
Upon successfully completing Year Zero through our Essex Pathways Department, you'll advance to complete your degree with the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies.

Do you find human relationships and personality development fascinating? Are you curious about behavioral patterns, the roots of human actions, and the origins of emotional or psychological challenges? Our program provides essential training for careers in education, healthcare, or social services, offering comprehensive grounding in psychodynamic theory, developmental psychology across all ages, and therapeutic approaches within organizational contexts.

Whether your passion lies in supporting distressed children in educational settings, assisting adults in mental health services, caring for the elderly, or working with individuals with learning disabilities, our degree prepares you to create meaningful impact. You'll gain practical skills for various education, healthcare, and social service roles. The program includes annual placements and is entirely assessment-based with no examinations.
