Our four-year BA Philosophy with Human Rights program (including a foundation year) helps you build subject expertise while enhancing academic abilities. The foundation year (Year Zero) provides essential grounding in these areas, preparing you for three subsequent years of undergraduate study at Essex. Opt for our five-year option to include a study abroad experience in your fourth year.
This program begins with Year Zero foundation studies, followed by three or four additional years depending on whether you select the international study option. During Year Zero, you'll explore three discipline-specific subjects alongside a mandatory academic skills module, with supplementary English language support for non-native speakers.
From day one, you join Essex as a full member of our global academic community, based at the UK's most internationally diverse campus university.
After successfully completing Year Zero through our Essex Pathways Department, you'll advance to complete your degree with the School of Philosophical, Historical and Interdisciplinary Studies.
This unique program combines philosophical study with the transformative concept of universal human rights, examining this powerful idea through multiple lenses including philosophy, politics, law, and sociology.
