Childhood studies is a dynamic and growing discipline that incorporates insights from psychology, sociology, and psychoanalysis. This program provides essential preparation for careers involving infants and children across education, healthcare, and social services. You'll develop comprehensive knowledge of child development, explore how societies view childhood (the ecology of childhood), and examine how these perspectives influence children's experiences. The course includes practical placements each year, allowing you to connect academic concepts with real-world applications. Evaluation primarily occurs through coursework assignments.
Whether your goal is to work with toddlers in daycare settings, support children facing emotional challenges in residential care, assist those with learning disabilities, or pursue teaching, our program equips you to positively impact young lives. Gain hands-on experience through infant observation exercises and fieldwork placements, which offer crucial exposure to your preferred professional area.
We guide you in examining potential career paths, ensuring you graduate with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills - a powerful combination that enhances your employability. Graduates pursue diverse roles including early childhood educators, family support specialists, educational assistants, primary/secondary school teachers, special education professionals, and social workers.
