This program is coordinated by Edinburgh Infectious Diseases (EID), operating under the joint auspices of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and the College of Science and Engineering.
It offers foundational training in research methods for professionals in biology, medicine, and veterinary science. The curriculum also serves as a pathway to doctoral research. Past participants have conducted studies across diverse fields including:
antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections
biology of disease-carrying arthropods and vectorborne illnesses
epidemiological analysis and computational modeling of infections in humans and animals
molecular diagnostics and rapid detection methods for infectious diseases
immune responses to bacterial and parasitic infections (covering significant tropical diseases like malaria, trypanosomiasis, and schistosomiasis)
immunology of livestock infections (such as Johne's Disease)
viral disease mechanisms (affecting both animals and humans, including herpes and HIV)
