The Centre for Genomics and Experimental Medicine (CGEM) at the University of Edinburgh operates within the MRC/University of Edinburgh Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM). CGEM focuses on leveraging genetic and genomic science to decipher disease mechanisms and develop innovative treatment approaches. Our work has consistently earned top marks in national research evaluations. We conduct comprehensive analyses across populations, families, and individuals to investigate diverse health conditions. Employing cutting-edge techniques in genetics, epigenetics, genomics, statistics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology, we systematically explore disease origins through both model systems and clinical research. These insights drive our efforts to enhance disease forecasting, prevention, and treatment outcomes. Our translational research includes creating new therapeutics and optimizing existing treatments through genetically-informed clinical trials.
