The Institute for Digital Communications (IDCOM) stands as the UK's premier research hub for signal processing and communications, housing the renowned Li-Fi R&D center. Our work spans three core areas: signal processing, communications systems, and tomographic imaging. We conduct cutting-edge research across signal/image processing and communications, ranging from theoretical foundations to practical implementations in audio, imaging, radar/sonar, and communication technologies.
The Institute boasts exceptional research infrastructure, featuring advanced computing resources and specialized labs for agile tomography, audio signal processing, and our flagship Li-Fi development center. Globally acclaimed for our contributions to communications systems and signal processing, we explore diverse research domains such as: energy-efficient wireless technologies, visible light communications, adaptive radio systems, sparse signal acquisition, networked sensor processing, and dynamic imaging techniques.
