This program examines the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, spanning from the Iron Age through the late Roman and early Christian eras, by analyzing archaeological evidence such as sculpture, funerary art, urban landscapes, and visual traditions.
With a concentration on the broader Mediterranean region, you'll investigate not only Greek and Roman archaeology but also the Near East and northwestern Europe.
Our cross-disciplinary approach allows collaboration with faculty across the School. Many classics department members lead active excavations in Italy, Georgia, and Macedonia, which students may participate in.
The curriculum aims to equip you with diverse classical study methodologies, fostering theoretically informed and methodologically rigorous research practices.
