Exploring Spanish and History provides valuable insights into both modern society and historical events. Our adaptable joint degree program allows you to master Spanish language proficiency while examining how Spanish-speaking nations and global cultures have influenced today's world.

As one of the world's most widely spoken languages, Spanish serves as the official language in 20 countries and is commonly used in several other regions, including parts of the United States.
At the University of Edinburgh, our Spanish studies immerse you in a vibrant array of international literature, cinema, poetry, and drama. The flexible curriculum encourages you to investigate the fascinating cultural heritage of Spain, Latin America, and the Caribbean within their historical frameworks.

New students with little prior knowledge typically begin with Spanish 1A, while those with more experience usually start with Spanish 1B.

Our intensive language program helps you achieve advanced Spanish communication skills while building the cultural awareness that employers value. You'll learn to identify various Spanish dialects and registers, developing essential intercultural understanding.
