The program cultivates self-assured, curious, and adaptable learners. You'll gain skills to investigate and express your artistic approach while examining both your own role and painting's place in modern visual culture. Drawing and visual research form the foundation at every stage, complemented by opportunities in printmaking, artist books, installations, and digital/lens-based media. Studio practice lies at the heart of this course, helping you discover and refine your unique visual style through painting's expressive possibilities. Individual growth receives special attention, with each student receiving dedicated workspace and access to exhibition venues both on and off campus for solo or collaborative installations. These exhibitions spark meaningful conversations about artistic practice. The curriculum covers technical processes, material applications, and various painting surfaces while encouraging exploration of both the practical and conceptual dimensions of painting. A visual culture component connects all ECA art programs through interdisciplinary study, fostering innovative research and analysis of cultural visual elements. Students participate in constructive exchanges with fellow artists while developing insights into contemporary visual landscapes. The program examines the artistic, intellectual, social, and professional frameworks influencing visual arts practice, teaching effective communication of this understanding through diverse written, spoken, visual, and practical formats.
