Interior Design focuses on conceptualizing and crafting indoor environments across various public and private settings. At Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), we explore, analyze, and cultivate concepts for diverse building scales, interventions, and timelines. Our goal is to shape spaces that enhance daily experiences and social interactions. Central to our educational approach is the Interior Lab studio—a creative workshop where ideas are nurtured, exchanged, and refined, mirroring the collaborative dynamics of professional design studios. Through imaginative projects, you'll hone your skills by reimagining existing structures with modern interventions that revitalize their purpose. Many assignments utilize actual Edinburgh buildings and scenarios, sometimes involving real clients through live projects. We foster originality, curiosity, and unconventional thinking, applying spatial, architectural, and interior theories to push boundaries. Technical proficiency is equally emphasized to ensure industry readiness post-graduation. Complementing studio practice, Design & Screen Cultures courses offer theoretical insights into modern design's interconnected nature.
