The MRes in Sport and Exercise Science equips students with essential research capabilities centered on sports-related studies. The program primarily revolves around an independent research initiative guided by experienced faculty members, complemented by a foundational research skills course. Instructional approaches encompass lectures, interactive workshops, seminars, group discussions, and regular consultations with academic supervisors. Digital resources support all classroom-based components.
Students conduct their research projects in our upgraded sports science labs, state-of-the-art athletic facilities, or through partnerships with community organizations, benefiting from established research networks.
The curriculum's central component is a substantial independent research endeavor accounting for 120 credits.
The remaining coursework includes a mandatory research methods module (taken during the initial year) and an elective module, each carrying 30 credits. Full-time candidates undertake these alongside their research, while part-time students must finish the skills module before commencing their project.
The teaching methodology incorporates diverse formats including lectures, practical workshops, academic seminars, collaborative discussions, and supervisory meetings.
All course modules feature supplementary digital materials. Our online learning platform additionally provides interactive elements to enrich the academic experience.
This program serves as ideal preparation for research-oriented careers in this competitive field and establishes a foundation for advanced studies at MPhil or PhD levels.
Participants gain from involvement in UEL's thriving research community. The Applied Sports Sciences Research Group (ASSRG), established in 2011, examines the social, psychological, and physiological effects of sports participation and has consistently expanded its peer-reviewed research output.
