This well-established program provides direct entry into youth work careers. Just one other institution in London combines a postgraduate JNC qualification with a master's degree. Featuring 600 required practice hours alongside UEL coursework, it's a challenging yet fulfilling journey. You'll cultivate skills to inspire confidence, manage difficult situations, and guide young Londoners - an energetic setting for youth and community development.
Our alumni frequently mentor current students professionally, while our passionate teaching team maintains strong local connections and active sector involvement.
The curriculum includes four essential modules, with two being fieldwork placements (Practice 1 and 2).
Campus sessions cover group dynamics, theoretical foundations, leadership strategies, and policy analysis - knowledge you'll immediately implement in real-world settings. Your fieldwork might involve school workshops, informal learning initiatives, youth skills development, or collaborations with partners like youth justice services, housing groups, or educational institutions.
This master's program offers flexible one-year full-time or two-year part-time options.
Weekly schedules typically include Tuesday sessions at UEL, blending lectures with interactive seminars, plus occasional field visits to observe community initiatives firsthand.
While traditional youth club management roles are declining, diverse new opportunities are emerging across social enterprises, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and housing associations.
For instance, program graduates have secured positions as college enrichment officers, essentially delivering informal education within academic settings.
