You'll learn from - and have opportunities to collaborate with - exceptional researchers engaged in pioneering studies and novel breakthroughs. Today, biochemists and biotechnologists are becoming increasingly vital in genetic modification, molecular bioengineering, and various physiological and medical fields. For example, antibiotic production through microbial fermentation in the pharmaceutical sector continues to be a major UK export, transforming global healthcare. Our goal is to provide you with thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of biotechnology and biochemistry applications in medicine and industry. This enables you to participate in this dynamic field, exploring disciplines that significantly enhance manufacturing techniques, combat illnesses, and elevate quality of life. The program offers an optional year-long industry placement between your second and third years, depending on availability with our partner organizations. Selecting this path means spending your third year gaining hands-on experience in a professional setting, complementing your academic development with real-world skills.
During your studies, you'll acquire diverse expertise in biotechnology and biochemistry, creating numerous career pathways upon graduation.
Potential career directions include laboratory positions in hospitals or research facilities, or roles in industrial and pharmaceutical laboratories. For instance, one of our alumni pursued a corporate pharmaceutical career, being recruited by top biopharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca before transitioning to medical school to become a physician.
