We seek emerging photographers who grasp photography's global influence and aspire to expand creative limits, discover innovative techniques, and apply their expertise to drive meaningful impact. Our program helps you master advanced photographic techniques while cultivating deep insights into photography's evolving role throughout history and in modern contexts.
Within our distinctive Art and Design department, you'll collaborate on cross-disciplinary initiatives, gaining competitive edge for the fourth industrial revolution (4iR) job market. You'll build a professional photography portfolio showcasing your personal vision and career goals, while mastering diverse creative methods - from traditional medium/large format cameras to digital innovations like 3D fabrication, plus self-publishing and audiovisual production. London's most extensive darkroom facilities await your analog photography experiments.
This course emphasizes practice-led research and cutting-edge photographic methods. Our career-focused curriculum combines hands-on learning with professional preparation, specializing in editorial, documentary and fine art photography as tools for social transformation. Selected sessions integrate with Visual Arts disciplines, broadening your skillset for confident professional execution. Through our Professional Practice: Mental Wealth and Cultural Manoeuvres modules, you'll deepen your creative perspective and industry engagement.
We cultivate world-class photographic talent. The proof? When legendary East End photographer David Bailey received his UEL honorary doctorate in 2014, he and former National Portrait Gallery Director Sandy Nairne both commended our students' outstanding work quality.
