On the BA (Hons) Illustration and Animation program, you'll have the opportunity to navigate both disciplines, cultivating a creative practice that merges animation and illustration while avoiding the film production demands of the BA (Hons) Animation degree. You'll engage with traditional techniques (including printmaking, publishing, 2D hand-drawn animation, stop-motion, and emerging hybrid technologies like 3D printing) while mastering digital tools (such as digital 2D/3D animation software, After Effects, Maya, and digital drawing with graphics tablets). Cross-disciplinary collaboration with students from Fine Art Technology, Design Interaction, and Photography enables skill-sharing and access to specialized technical support across fields, equipping you with competitive advantages for the evolving job market and the fourth industrial revolution (4iR).
This program fosters a boundary-blurring approach between illustration and animation—an increasingly prevalent industry trend—while developing versatile skills for diverse creative projects, aligning with the fluid professional demands of Creative Industries 4.0 where rigid disciplinary boundaries are fading.
Develop critical thinking and complex problem-solving abilities to thrive in the 4iR era (what we term emotional intelligence), while gaining industry insights through our annual Detour Ahead initiative: a week-long interdisciplinary speaker series offering career roadmaps, plus practical guidance on copyright, freelancing, and taxation.
Graduates unlock diverse career pathways across animation and illustration fields.
Professional studies modules equip you with industry knowledge through design publications, CV development, and portfolio creation for employer presentations.
The program includes AOI (Association of Illustrators) membership—extending to Graphic Design and Illustration students—featuring business masterclasses on contracts/licensing, plus discounted access to Varoom magazine and AOI resources.
