Our MA Creative Writing (Poetry) program is designed to help you craft poetry ready for publication while fostering a supportive yet challenging atmosphere. You'll become part of UEA's prestigious creative writing community in Norwich - a picturesque, historic city recognized as England's inaugural UNESCO City of Literature.
Over this intensive one-year (or two-year part-time) program of deep reading, creative writing, experimentation and bold exploration, you'll develop a portfolio approaching the length of a debut collection. Through two Poetry Workshops, you'll push your technical abilities - a process that proves both exhilarating and demanding, yet ultimately fulfilling. We additionally provide insights into publishing processes, performance opportunities, literary prizes and related professional pathways. The accompanying Describing Poetry module introduces fundamental poetic theories across literary history while encouraging creative-critical engagement with your work. You can also select an elective from diverse creative and critical offerings across Arts and Humanities. The program enhances analytical, conceptual and linguistic abilities while sharpening precision, reasoning and argumentation skills.
