Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) play a crucial role in surgical teams, collaborating with anesthetists, surgeons, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to maximize patient safety and surgical effectiveness. As an ODP, you'll be involved in every stage of clinical care - from planning and preparation to implementation and assessment. The training covers essential perioperative techniques across anesthesia, surgery, and post-operative recovery, opening doors to diverse career paths. Strong leadership, management, and communication abilities are equally important in surgical settings, and students will cultivate these competencies during their education.
Our three-year program, offered through the School of Health Sciences, holds full accreditation from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Successful completion qualifies graduates to apply for ODP registration. It's important to note that only HCPC-registered practitioners who have completed approved training can work as ODPs in the NHS. This comprehensive course equips students with the expertise to become proficient, in-demand professionals capable of delivering exceptional patient care and technical assistance alongside medical teams throughout surgical procedures.
