This cutting-edge program blends a multidisciplinary approach with specialized anthropological insights into international development studies. Core modules examine pressing global challenges through an anthropological viewpoint – such as economic disparity, social inequity, gender dynamics, governance issues, and societal tensions – with particular emphasis on cultural diversity and how various social frameworks, relationships, and belief systems worldwide influence individual experiences and transformative processes. Students will acquire hands-on training in essential anthropological research techniques and can explore material culture at the prestigious Sainsburys Centre for Visual Arts.
Alongside this anthropological specialization, the curriculum provides comprehensive exposure to development frameworks, institutions, and methodologies, integrating anthropological perspectives with other social science disciplines like economics, environmental studies, geography, media studies, and political science. Learners can deepen their regional expertise through modules focusing on sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, or Latin America, while also exploring other developmental viewpoints aligned with their academic interests.
During the final year, participants will undertake international studies at a partner university, selecting courses that complement their program's academic focus.
