Over the past two years, the University of Dundee, the Scottish Government, and COSLA have collaborated with the broader National Scottish Steering Group for Educational Psychology (NSSGEP) to evaluate Scotland's Educational Psychologist training programs. This initiative primarily addressed professional calls to consider introducing a Doctorate in Educational Psychology as an alternative to the existing MSc Educational Psychology (Scotland). Based on the review findings, plans are now underway to launch a new Doctorate program starting in 2025, currently being developed following established quality and academic protocols. Please be aware the implementation schedule may adjust as the initiative moves forward.
To facilitate the transition between training models, no new students will be admitted to the current MSc Educational Psychology (Scotland) program in 2024. The University of Dundee is handling all preparatory work for the new doctoral qualification, which includes obtaining necessary accreditations and providing final approvals to the program's co-funders - the Scottish Government and COSLA.
Current MSc Educational Psychology (Scotland) students will finish their degrees as originally planned.
