Enhance your Spanish language abilities while delving into the rich heritage of the Highlands and Islands, early Scottish governance, and examining authentic 17th-century documents. You'll also assess Scotland's role in the transatlantic slave system and investigate the evolution of Scottish and British national identities from the Act of Union to modern times.
Our program focuses on active historical engagement. From your first year, you'll work directly with primary materials, examining diverse historical records including texts, oral accounts, cartographic resources, visual media, cinema, artistic works, and musical compositions.
After building foundational knowledge, you'll concentrate your studies in Levels 3 and 4, having first explored Scottish history in conjunction with Irish, American, European, and world history spanning the early modern era to contemporary times.
You'll engage with major historical discussions, tracing their progression and influence on our global perspective. The program also examines historians' methodologies and their contemporary relevance in public discourse, media, and cultural preservation.
