Learn French while delving into the rich history of the Highlands and Islands, early Scottish governance, examining authentic 17th-century manuscripts, and evaluating Scotland's role in the transatlantic slave trade. Additionally, investigate the evolving dynamics between Scottish and British national identities from the Act of Union in 1707 to modern times.
Our program focuses on hands-on historical practice. From your first year, you'll work directly with primary materials, examining diverse historical records such as documents, oral accounts, cartographic resources, visual media, cinema, artworks, and musical compositions.
After establishing foundational knowledge, you'll concentrate your studies during Levels 3 and 4, exploring Scottish history in conjunction with British, Irish, American, European, and world history spanning from the early modern era to contemporary times.
You'll engage with pivotal historical discussions, tracing their evolution and impact on our global perspective. The curriculum also examines historians' methodologies in reconstructing the past and assesses their influence in modern public discourse, media, and cultural preservation sectors.
