Uncover the rich heritage of the Highlands and Islands, delve into Scotland's early political landscape, examine authentic 17th-century manuscripts, and thoughtfully assess Scotland's role in the transatlantic slave trade. Additionally, investigate the evolving dynamics between Scottish and British national identities from the Act of Union in 1707 to modern times.
Our program focuses on active historical engagement. From your first year, you'll work directly with primary sources, evaluating diverse historical materials such as documents, oral accounts, cartographic records, visual media, cinema, artworks, and musical compositions.
After establishing foundational knowledge, you'll concentrate your studies at Levels 3 and 4, having first explored Scottish history in conjunction with British, Irish, American, European, and world history spanning from early modern to contemporary eras.
Course offerings include comprehensive subjects like Scottish literature, where you'll analyze how source materials and media shape our interpretations of historical events.
