Philosophy examines the fundamental nature of existence through rigorous analysis and reasoned debate. If you frequently ponder life's profound mysteries and unanswered questions, philosophy might be your ideal pursuit.
Our program focuses on continental (European) philosophical traditions, guiding students through seminal works from Europe's intellectual heritage, featuring influential thinkers from the past century.
We demonstrate philosophy's relevance to modern challenges by:
analyzing films and artistic creations
examining groundbreaking scientific and technological advances
engaging in ethical dilemmas
demonstrating how centuries-old philosophical texts remain applicable to current political landscapes
During Levels 1 and 2, you'll establish foundations in both ancient and contemporary philosophy while exploring core concepts in ethics, epistemology (the study of knowledge), and metaphysics (the study of reality).
At Levels 3 and 4, you'll specialize by selecting from diverse philosophy courses taught by faculty conducting cross-disciplinary research.
Your studies will include existentialism's connections to modern culture, technology, and cinema, along with aesthetic theory and art philosophy. We'll encourage you to draw connections between philosophy and other academic disciplines.
Additionally, each semester at every level includes one French language module, available for beginners or as intensive study for those with prior Higher/A-Level experience.
