The MSc in Urban Spatial Science provides students with an interdisciplinary framework for examining, assessing, and enhancing urban resilience and sustainability worldwide through data-driven approaches. The program offers three specialization tracks: (1) Smart Cities and Urban Policy, (2) Modeling and Simulation, and (3) Data Visualization. Foundational urban spatial science principles apply across all tracks, while each pathway allows for focused thematic study. Designed as an interdisciplinary degree, it incorporates expertise from diverse fields including geography, urban planning, computer science, physics, and the humanities.
Coursework examines the theoretical, social, and scientific underpinnings of contemporary urban environments through geospatial and data-focused perspectives. Students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge urban analytics techniques and data-informed decision-making methods, covering: mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, simulation techniques, programming, spatial analysis, and visualization. These technical competencies are grounded in comprehensive theoretical understanding of urban dynamics, including demographic patterns, economic systems, urban morphology, network interactions, governance structures, policy frameworks, planning processes, and the emerging field of urban science.
