This collaborative program, offered by the UCL School of Management and the Department of Economics, delivers an exceptional educational and research opportunity for students seeking advanced expertise in financial economics. The MRes and PhD in Financial Economics represents a partnership between UCL's Department of Economics and School of Management. Financial support through scholarships, covering both tuition and living costs, is available for successful applicants who submit their materials during the January 2024 admissions period.

The MRes curriculum begins with intensive quantitative instruction in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and finance, all presented through the lens of contemporary research and practical applications. Additionally, the program develops analytical frameworks and versatile skills that enable students to identify compelling research questions, effectively present concepts for peer review, and contribute valuable feedback to others' work.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must hold a distinction in a Master's degree in Economics (or closely related subject) or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of analytical and quantitative skills (such as in mathematics and statistics), evidenced by strong performance in relevant modules taken on previous degree programmes and/or through relevant standardised test performances (such as GRE Quantitative of at least 160). Submitting your GRE test result is encouraged but not compulsory and is only one of the components used to assess the strength of applications. The English language level for this programme is: Level 2

UCL Pre-Master's and Pre-sessional English courses are for international students who are aiming to study for a postgraduate degree at UCL. The courses will develop your academic English and academic skills required to succeed at postgraduate level. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Version - Overall score of 7.0 and a minimum of 6.5 in each component. Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Overall score of 96 with 24/30 in reading and writing and 22/30 in speaking and listening.
