The UCL Slade School of Fine Art stands among the UK's most prestigious university departments dedicated to fine arts. We view research as both artistic practice and critical reflection, employing experimental, creative, and varied methodologies. Every Slade faculty supervisor is an active artist or writer engaged in research. Details about their research specialties can be found on the Slade website, along with our research strategy and key priorities for the coming five-year period.
We actively promote cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary research collaborations with other UCL faculties, external institutions, and members of the London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP). These connections are fostered through research clusters, events, and joint supervision. Doctoral candidates at Slade continually expand the boundaries of fine art research through institutional partnerships while enriching broader cultural discourse via public art projects, publications, curatorial work, and academic pursuits.
