The UCL MA History program leverages the department's broad research and instructional strengths, enabling students to select courses spanning diverse historical eras and regions. The curriculum delivers graduate-level instruction from prominent scholars across multiple disciplines. This master's program provides high-level teaching by distinguished historians in numerous historical specialties. Students can pursue one of four specialized tracks:
Modern British History
Environment, State, and Economy
Culture, Ideas, and Identities
Empires and Global History
Each track features a required foundational course that presents the key theories, methodologies, and discussions relevant to that specialization. Supplementary modules enable deeper exploration of topics aligned with your chosen track, while electives offer flexibility to select from a broad array of historical subjects.
This program serves as excellent preparation for PhD studies, especially for those focusing on early modern and contemporary periods, though medieval and ancient history options are also available. It also functions as a bridge program for non-history graduates transitioning into historical research.
