The MA Education (Literacy) program offers students a distinctive chance to examine literacy's role in our increasingly diverse and evolving global landscape. Acknowledging literacy as a social practice within multilingual and multimodal environments, this program investigates historical and contemporary understandings of literacy and its political dimensions. Our curriculum examines diverse perceptions, valuations, applications, and assessments of literacy across various life domains and cultural settings. Consequently, this MA program investigates literacy's connections to power structures, agency, and gender constructs, while examining the broader implications of these relationships.
Participants in this program learn from globally renowned literacy experts, gaining transferable skills applicable in professional settings or for advanced doctoral studies. Graduates will possess the analytical tools to critically evaluate literacy's function across multiple environments, including educational institutions, domestic spaces, and workplaces. Through a socio-cultural lens, the program investigates literacy practices and development throughout human lives, across different societal spheres and cultural frameworks. After exploring various theoretical approaches to literacy studies, students undertake original research projects focused on personally relevant literacy topics.
