The Civil Engineering Graduate Diploma serves as a conversion course, allowing graduates from related disciplines (such as mathematics, physics, or geology) to complete a preparatory year before advancing to a Civil or Structural Engineering MSc. This program offers the distinctive advantage of earning an accredited level 7 Civil Engineering MSc in just two years, paving the way for a career as a chartered civil engineer. The Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering is a specialized course that establishes core competencies in fundamental areas including fluids, materials, soils, and structures – all vital for professional practice in civil engineering. The syllabus incorporates modules from the second and third years of our respected BEng/MEng Civil Engineering programs. In addition to formal instruction, students undertake a collaborative civil engineering research project.
UCL's Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering delivers an engaging and thorough academic experience. Combining conventional lectures, team-based projects, and individualized research, students experience diverse learning methods. This structure fosters deep civil engineering knowledge while enabling focus on key specialties like structural dynamics, eco-conscious design, geotechnics, transportation systems, and other critical fields. Beyond technical skills, the curriculum emphasizes the relationship between engineering decisions and broader societal/environmental impacts, preparing graduates to develop sustainable engineering solutions.
