This four-year course is designed to enhance your expertise in Viking Age studies by exploring medieval and contemporary Scandinavian languages, Old Norse texts, and historical contexts. Your third academic year will be spent at a partner university in Denmark, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden, based on your selected language. During the first year, you'll learn a mainland Scandinavian language alongside Old Norse, with optional courses in Scandinavian history, linguistics, and medieval studies. Additionally, you can choose modules from the School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS), broadening your studies to include literature, cinema, arts, and cultural topics. This interdisciplinary approach provides exposure to diverse cultural trends, key themes, and academic methodologies, leveraging the School's comprehensive expertise.
