Course Overview
In collaboration with our Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester provides a specialized Religious Education program (ages 11-16 with sixth form extension) leading to PGCE with QTS certification. Teaching offers immense personal fulfillment alongside professional challenges. Our program equips you with essential knowledge, skills, and pedagogical understanding to excel as an educator. We cultivate teachers who are deeply committed to advancing both their students' and their own professional growth.
Religious Education instruction occurs through partnerships with our Lead Secondary Schools, including the Alliance of Leading Learning, Sandstone Trust, and Salop Teaching Partnership.
This program places significant focus on cultural competency. Trainees will collaborate throughout the academic year to strengthen this crucial aspect of teaching. The University maintains robust connections with the regional Development Education Center to enhance this focus.
Religious Education trainees will complete placements in local schools, gaining valuable practical experience while expanding their subject expertise. These opportunities foster the professional competencies needed for successful teaching careers. The curriculum thoroughly prepares candidates to meet all national curriculum standards with confidence.
Applicants will normally: Hold or be expected to gain a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree; Have GCSE grade C/grade 4 in English and Mathematics. IELTS 7.0 overall (with no less than 5.5 in each band). TOEFL iBT: Overall score: 91. Min sub skill: Listening: 19; Reading: 20; Speaking: 21; Writing: 20.
