Working alongside Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester provides a Physics specialization (ages 11-16 with sixth form extension) that leads to a PGCE with QTS qualification. A career in teaching brings both immense satisfaction and demanding challenges. Our program equips you with the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding to become an exceptional educator. We strive to cultivate teachers who are deeply committed to advancing both their students' and their own professional growth.
This program enables you to teach Secondary Science while concentrating on your Physics specialization. You'll enhance your subject expertise, hands-on abilities, and teaching methods across all KS3 science areas, while deepening your proficiency in Physics at KS4 and KS5 levels, tailored to your academic background and experience.
Ideal candidates will possess a strong undergraduate degree with substantial Physics content. While various degrees may provide adequate subject knowledge, passionate science graduates with foundational Physics understanding can complete a preparatory enhancement course before commencing the PGCE. These preparatory courses range from 10 days to six months, though applicants require endorsement from a PGCE tutor. The University of Chester provides both 10-day and 20-day preparatory courses.
Students from countries outside the UK are expected to have entry qualifications roughly equivalent to British Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) for postgraduate study. We accept a wide range of qualifications and consider all applications individually on merit. We may also consider appropriate work experience.
