Working alongside Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester provides a Drama specialization (ages 11-16 with sixth form extension) that leads to a PGCE with QTS qualification. A teaching career offers immense satisfaction alongside its demands. Our program equips you with the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding to become an exceptional educator. We foster teachers who are deeply committed to advancing both their students' and their own professional growth.
Through your Drama specialization, you'll discover methods to inspire young people's appreciation and execution of theatrical arts.
Previous Subject Enrichment Weeks for Drama students have featured destinations like Amsterdam, Venice, Barcelona, and Prague. Participants collaborate with educators, performers, and scholars from schools, theaters, and universities throughout this immersive week. You'll examine the historical and cultural dimensions of international theater and drama education practices, comparing them with UK approaches. This experience also includes maintaining a reflective journal documenting insights and observations.
After returning to the UK, participants have created collaborative or independent projects that serve as foundations for curriculum plans and hands-on workshops in partner schools. The program thoroughly prepares you to meet all fundamental national curriculum standards with confidence.
Applicants will normally: Hold or be expected to gain a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in a relevant subject. Have GCSE grade C/grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics.
